Asphalt Contracting

Dense-graded, open-graded and heavy-duty mixes, from overlays to full-depth reconstruction.

The short version

Asphalt is unforgiving about temperature and timing. Mat thickness, delivery temperature and the rolling pattern decide whether a surface lasts fifteen years or five, and none of them can be corrected afterwards.

01What we control

  • Mix chosen for the layer and the traffic

    Wearing course, intermediate course and heavy-duty mixes are specified against what runs over them, not against what is cheapest to cart.

  • Joints planned before the first truck

    A cold joint is the first thing to fail on any asphalt job. Where the joints fall is decided at the staging stage, not on the day.

  • Compaction inside the window

    Density is won in the minutes between the screed and the mat going cold. Thin mats on cold days give you very few of them.

  • Recycled and warm-mix options

    Recycled asphalt pavement, warm mix and crumb rubber binders wherever the specification and the asset owner allow them.
